I've tried (~2 hours over as many days) to get this to work, and I can't seem to get any demos to load - everything fails with a "bad animation number:54" error. I'm sure other people have tried this and reported the same error. It seems to me like Q3MME can't find any models/animations to load - "Failed to load model file models/players//lower.md3" gets spammed in the console. It's like the model name is left blank. I'll admit I'm not overly knowledgeable about the interaction between the .qvms, the visual/audio/map assets, and the *x86.dll's which seem to power Q3MME. But I am quite capable of learning this stuff and would love to get UrT 4.1 and Q3MME working together. My next step, if nobody has any ideas, will be to rebuild Q3MME from the old source code on Sourceforge, and/or break it enough to ignore the model problems.
I also tried loading UrT 3.x demos and having the 3.x PK3s in the MME directory. That...kind of worked. Most demos crash out with some sort of "can't find weapon" error, which I assume is because Q3 has 10 or 11 weapons, while UrT has over a dozen. However a few demos did play, albeit with no models whatsoever. Basically invisible models from anything but first person view. The bounding boxes were there when I pressed mouse1+2. The flag models were replaced with armor pickups (green shard for red, and yellow armor for blue), but otherwise everything was fine. Everything map-related was textured correctly. When the player in the demo died, the weapon drop was a Q3 shotgun - however in first person view, the weapon was a machine gun with what looked like the battle suit powerup combined with quad damage. Most important to me, though, was that the Q3MME stuff like flying around the map worked fine (obviously it would, since I basically loaded UrT maps in vanilla q3). The demos which would load were all of solo play (jumps); a demo I found from a match crashed out with the aforementioned weapon error.
The interesting thing to me is that at least 1 UrT 3.x demo loaded, while I can't seem to get anything for 4.1 to load. I don't think there is any technical difference between the versions except for the .qvm files, which I did not put in the directory. However the 3.x demos which did load, loaded without the animation error. I suspect 4.1's animations are more complex than 3.x's, and this causes the problem.
As I said, my next step will be rebuilding from the old source and attempting to get the game to at least load 4.1 demos, regardless of what it looks like in game. Even a crappy old version of MME would be a massive benefit to UrT's movie community. I'm not a programmer (oh, but I did take an introductory Java course at uni!), but I can understand C well enough to muddle through stuff and get broken code to eventually compile. Any advice you can give me on getting these 2 mods to work together would be great.
edit: here's the condump from a typical attempt to load a 4.1 demo
