Hi all,
I recently downloaded "Wolf Whisperer", a similified GUI for wolfcam. The bottom line is that one if it's features is a "texture" folder that contains all the textures from the metal-tech v2 texture pack (a q3 mod, compiling custom textures from different sources). When I got excited and quickly started editing textures, I found that (obviously) the list is far from complete.
The rest of the texture files are stored a few at a time in individual map files. Not sure how enthusiastic anyone else is, but personally I'd see it as a great opportunity if all of these textures were compiled together.
You could then be watching a demo, see a texture with potential to be improved and simply browse textures then do what you want in photoshop.
My question therefore is, has anyone done this before (so I don't need to bother), would anyone be interested if I did compile a full folder of textures ready to be edited at one's will.
And finally, is there a way to (in the map.bsp file) find a list of which textures are in which maps? I'd at least like to be able to locate the bloody textures I want to override when I see them (e.g. campground's bridge texture isn't in it's file >.<)
Thanks for reading, /end

Heya,
I see your point in wanting to know where textures are used. If the maps do not have the textures stored in the individual map pk3 file then I do not see a way to do this. Maybe some map editor can do that for you. You are trying to create a skin pack by yourself now?

Each map has a few extra textures, not a full list to save space (most are re-used between maps). I suppose this accounts for why when you play quakelive the first time some map files (ones upon which other maps are dependent for textures) have to be downloaded to ensure whichever map you play is properly textured.
I've decoded every map and pak file and compiled into one texture folder, but it's 482Mb and nobody's going to download that I guess. It's for personal use, really, but I thought it could be useful to other likeminded people...

Thank you then. Make things available for people to download and let them enjoy them

Sadly I don't have space in my dropbox, and I'm saving that last few hundred megabytes for my upcoming movie.
If anyone's seriously interested they'll find this thread and I can happily send it to them bit by bit, or if anyone else can host it I'd be overjoyed.
*hint, hint*

Send that to me somehow, I will host it on my server for as long as they do not complain that there is too much traffic.

Mango (guy behind Wolf Whisperer) seems interested too, if he could add it as part or at least as a compliment to his next wolf whisperer update that would get word out pretty quick. I'm putting it into my dropbox folder now, It'll take a while if it works at all - then I'll let you know. You might not need to bother if mango is worth his juice and can do it himself... Sounds typical of my experience, though my computer isn't that fast. Also my dropbox is free so it might be slower than paid accounts. I use it more as a secure storage area/backup for some quake files that a few other people can access so speed isn't a biggie for me.
I got it from your site at about 8Mbps (346*10^6*8)/(6*60), not sure why firefox can't do the maths itself ^^
Thanks a lot though, I'll pass the link around if anyone's ever interested.
