Finally, after almost 2 years of work, i just finished my first complete movie. From the description: Dicht Productions proudly presents a quake3-movie created by flixx. The movie is a frag/style combination, but not that content-focused. It rather relies on heavy editing and provides a unique image, sychronized precisely with the soundtrack. For further informations check the included nfo-file in the archive. The filesize is huge, but necessary to keep all the small details. c0ke.untergrund.net/nothings_finalAny feedback is highly appreciated! You guys at this board are able to notice how much work went into the whole thing, so you're opinions are highly valued. Here's a xvid version for all you guys that aren't able to play the x264 properly. But consider this as a compromise, because the x264 looks MUCH better. www.xscc.eu/OMMM/nothings.final.720p.xvid-dp.rarThanks to Cannabis for this great mod, Auri and Foksie for running this board and all it's members for providing a lot of useful stuff!

Hey there flixx,
your movie is good and worth telling you my opinion. I will watch it and simultaneously write down everything that comes to mind ;D
START Nice logo, I like how you can spin it. Are you German? Dicht means sloshed : ) Finding the dptv logo in the upper corner a bit cheesy. No need for that. Very nice color correction, it fits the music. I like the stringy things in the sky. And that pulsing cpm logo is a great idea. Then that small room there with the graffiti.. it probably took you some time with the matchmoving or whatever. But it runs muuuuuch too long. Over a minute for that I guess and it had been said before that it's by dicht productions. I love the drop of the music + video together. Really nice style, dark music, dark colors, cold and empty maps, I like it, yeah. And it's my style of music, when in the right mood. Custom impressive and gauntlet signs, very nice. I only know one other video who tried that - isReady. Also the custom dm17 skymap, nice. Did you use my dm17 map skin for that or did you make it yourself? Looking at the color correction all the time, I find it really neat. Sharp, nice contrast, some glow. Already in the beginning everybody should notice that the frags are mostly veeery average. Not too entertaining there. Might probably show the frags quicker. It confuses watchers if really average frags are shown as if they were more important like too much slow motion on a normal rail and so. Mostly first person = very nice! No better way to make a great fragmovie. Custom fragmessage, why not. Looks funny. Good font all over the movie by the way. cp23 part, I like it as well. Where did you get that skymap from? : ))) This second part has nice music again, nice effects on the players, really enjoyable to watch. Could have been played in double speed I guess. The dm19 rocketjump trick is so damn slow, one almost falls asleep. It's a very simple trick, has been shown too often to enjoy it in 0.1 timescale. Thank you for my name in the credits : P I would use a normal font for the credits next time. A bit hard to read on many lines.
Enjoyable movie! When I started watching it the first time, the first impression was very nice because of 1. the color correction 2. the music 3. the sound and video quality, both awesome. Those things make the video look kinda professional, shows that you know a bit about what you are doing. I can understand you had put so much work into it. Very good!
Is that enough? Next time in a movie, you could try to make one with more action I think. It was a cpm movie but you never really see those fast cpm strafes + flick rails which people are used to. And I would avoid more of that ultra slow motion, it bores people after some seconds. There you have good and bad opinions.
Have a great new year! John

Thanks for the detailed review, John! Yes, it was your dm17 custom skybox thanks for that! The sky from cp23 is a clip from videocopilots "Real Clouds" DVD. So it's actually a real sky, heavily color corrected of course. Same goes for the pyramid of the magician sky. Many thanks for the tips for the next movie! I think it's going to be a defrag movie... we'll see cheers, flixx

did someone say "defrag movie"? I'm a defragger, and my friend wanted to make a tricking movie, but he'll be busy for a while. I also just got through with my latest movie (see "Evolution" topic), but I'm going to be starting more advanced tricks. If you're interested, I can work on some good material.

Hy!
I'm having problems with playing the video. It's encoded with x264 codec right? I installed this codec to be sure I have it(Alioth I had it before too) and neither wmp, neither winamp,or divxplayer can't play it correctly. If I convert the file,it becomes unsynchronized(video-audio).Do you have any tips to fix this? Thanks in advance.
Matthew

@ rpstool: sounds nice. let's stay in contact. i rather thought of a defrag cpm-runs movie...but who knows, a trickmovie woukd also be nice maybe you can help and give me some tips for trickjumps and if we get enough content, i would gladly change my mind going to write a comment on your evolution movie after this post! @ matthew: get the vlc media player, like mentioned in the readme: www.videolan.org/vlc/and the CCCP (Codec Pack): www.cccp-project.net/then it should work fine! have fun watching

Hello!
Well,I'm sorry but it didn't help too much. The video I get now is stretching,it stops in every second.Maybe I should uninstall my current codec pack?(K-lite codec pack).I've tried vlc player before(although I couldn't read the readme),but it didn't even give me any video, only audio. Now,it improved a bit with installing that CCCP codec pack(or whatever),but still can't watch the movie.I changed the video modes too(directX,openGL,and direct3D),but none of them was good.(I have rebooted my pc naturally)

hey matthew,
you should have uninstalled the k-lite pack first. i would uninstall both packs and then only re-install the cccp. can you play other hd-movies encoded with x264 properly?

Well a hint for everybody: You need a damn good computer to play this properly. I have a duo core 3ghz bla bla whatever 2gb ram and it's not enough at all. Cannot play it without lags either. Watched it at a friend's place though.

it's true, you need a good computer for proper playback. but a friend of mine gave me the tip (his system is lower than auris and he can play it without any problems), that the best configuration for the playback of those cpu-performance-intense x264 movies is a clean installation of the cccp and the use of the included media player classic. vlc is a standalone app, so it does not use the codecs from the cccp.give this a try and post the results

Ok,I'm not surpriced than,if it's lagging:D I have 1,5Gb RAM,a 2,4Ghz Intel processor, and an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro video card.Anyway, somehow I fsolved my problem.I re-encoded the original file to msmpeg4v2 codec.First it was unsychronized, but after this codec uninstallatiohn/reinstallation it became sínchronized...dunno how:D,and wmp could play it correctly.True, that it lost a bit from the quality, but at least I could watch it till the end. Nice movie, thanks for the experience! I'm not authentic in movie making, just learning this art:D.Also,I'm noob n the game itself, but I like it,thats the point:D

I've been working on some new content. I already have about 10 tricks demoed and ready for q3mme. I might start developing some team-tricks with Anthem and see if we can get some cool stuff on demo.

As far as the technical aspect of the movie, it's great but overall it feels tedious. Too much unnecessary slow-mo applied to ordinary frags. Gosh...I miss "Just Quake"-like fragmovies

hey splicho, the version that is linked above is a .mkv (matroska) container. is that the one that stops or one of the streams posted at one-age? because you said something about a stream... if you want i can upload an xvid version of the movie that should work properly on most systems. the xvid does not look as good as the x264, but it's better than nothing to watch and thanks for your opinion! glad you like it.

In my opinion it was crazy of you to only upload an x264 mkv version. My computer is not that bad and I cannot play it because the bitrate is too high on so many spots. Audio and video were not often synced when watching here. I would always supply people with two versions.

Post by flixx on Jan 8, 2010 18:25:28 GMT 1
Yeah, you're right Auri! There are actually 2 versions uploaded, but the mkv version is the only one which satisfies me in the matter of quality. The other one is a smaller x264 mp4, but i'm going to replace it with the xvid, because almost everyone should be able to play the xvid without problems. But... i don't get why this doesn't run (for instance) on your computer. I showed it to a friend yesterday and his system is muuuuch slower and older than yours but no problems at all. It' just a clean installation of the cccp and the included mpc Anyways,... going to post the xvid version tommorow!

Yeah well, I am lazy. I did not install that. I got VCL and I got MPC + K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. Might sound noobish but it's usually alright for me

Hey... i'm pretty lazy too So it took me some days to upload the xvid version. But now i added a mirror to my first post. And your setup is really ok, it worked for me too... for years. Just until some encoding-noob comes along with a movie encodet in an insane bitrate, pretending it's all necessary because of some so called high-detail stuff...

Exactly. BIG BONUS for a 1mb/sec direct download link! Is there no audio in the xvid file?

Hmmm... dammit. I think i messed something up! Had to format and re-install my complete system , cause of such a f****n beast of f****n virus... and i think i made a backup of the wrong file.... dammit But, there must be a possibility of extracting the audio from the x264 and muxing it with the xvid... i guess... any of you guys done something like that before? Got to reinstall meGUI and look for a solution. @ emir4nt:

I have not done that before. Rather go to the video editing program and only render the audio maybe Muxing then isn't so hard I guess.
