Time for some moar experimental Quake III Arena machinima stuff. I have already shared this on the moviemaking discord channel and IGMDB, so some of you might have seen it already. These are two of my latest Quake III projects: IGNIIITION and IGNIIITIION Instagib. Although both films are completely different as they focus on different gamemodes, they share similarities with each other in terms of build-up and music. For the sequel I used different parts of the same song, and mixed a few other songs in there to add some kind of audio leitmotiv as a way to place it in the same 'movie universe', if that makes sense.

IGNIIITION (basically ignition, but with three 'I's as a interplay towards Quake III), is a one minute short that highlights the duel game mode in Q3A/CPMA. I just recently realized how slow this film is in comparison with its little brother, but for me the main reason why I love the end result so much are the map (tresspass by Pat howard: especially for machinima I find this a masterpiece of a map) and the colorful contrasts. I love the greentints in the map and the red contrast with the players. - It was released in april of 2021 and featured on 'Game Junction', a video game art exhibition in Moscow, Russia last summer.
Interesting to note, the depth of field maps using savedepth 1 were used for grading purposes in this film by adding some additional exposure on the entire image. They are easily distinguished as they have been given a bluetint to counter the warm colors.
IGNIIITIION Instagib is a direct sequel to the original. This time it highlights the instagib gamemode within CPMA from as many different perspectives as possible. I find this one to be the better of the two. Runtime is longer, and instead of using savedepth 1 depthmaps, I went ahead and used the superior method of adding DoF this time by implementing it directly into the shot. There are quite a few of interesting shots in this one. Film was released in november of 2021. A few nudges to old machinima are made just for fun in this one. Ironwood (featured in Hyper Reality), trespass (featured in original IGNIIITION) and the pad jumping shot in q3dm6 (featured in APPOV, made way back in 2010).
