Here we go... Version: AAE 7 Pro 1. After capturing normal and depth screenshots make avi files from them (i recommend Vdub for that operation). You got them avi files ? Great ! :] 2. Import them in AAE and put in the timeline. 3. Add "Lens blur" effect (Effect -> Blur& Sharpen -> Lens blur) to the normal avi: www.zbuk.net/~mike/home/dof1.jpg4. Choose depth avi as a "Depth Map Layer" in the "Lens blur" configuration: www.zbuk.net/~mike/home/dof2.jpgThat's about it :] In the "Lens blur" configuration you will find some usefull options. They are self explenatory or they ain't :] Try for yourself. If you want to know smth more about this method don't be afraid to ask. I WONT KILL YOU !!! :>>>

dont see why not. some people are bound to prefer after effects to vegas, or using the slow photoshop.

I would like to have one. The tutorial which showed vegas dof is good but it is no real dof. Inexact as well.
Thank you in advance. How is the movie going? John

testDOF was done in after effects using "TrueCameraRackFocus" of the ImageLoundry plugin from RedGiantSoftware. Does the most realistic dof imo. Lights are blurred almost 32bpc alike. Had the standard Focus 300 and Range 800 settings... working with 500/1200 actually.

I'm lucky I got my hands on a copy of the Sapphire Plugins at work and I tried the ZDepthFocus plugin with q3mme material and what I can say? Wow! This plugin, if you have access to a copy, is most comfortable to work with. Reminds me of "real" focus pulling with a camera, allowing to smoothly shift focus in a scene without the pain of long preview rendering, because it has a great focus zone overlay for quick and painless image setup.
The result can be seen in "The Last Stand" machinima for the Dell Games Mini Video contest. While the movie was put together in a kind of a rush (and thus lacks a bit of quality), I'm pretty happy with the depth of field effect.
