Hello! I'd like to ask a question about mme and two about VirtualDub: 1.In mme:I often don't hear the sounds, especially when 2 sound meets each other:D That sound which starts earlier disables every other sound until itself is finished. Why does mme do that? I experienced it very often since I started to use this program.Even in the latest version 2.about VD:I captured a short footage with mme.I usually use DivX codec to compress the avi files I make from the screenshots. But now,VD refuses to do it.It says: The source image format is not acceptable (error code -2). I tried to capture in tga,jpg and png(or pgn?) format as well, but I get the same error message. I don't have any other useful codec than DivX to compress. And an other strange thing I can't understand:My VD shows that I have DivX 6.8.5 version.I uninstalled my DivX codec, and downloaded Divx 7 After installing it,VD said the showed version(I rebooted of corse) Does anyone know how to fix it? Or maybe recommend a better codec? 3.I can't get my audio synched with my video. I set the same fps in the Frame rate as I captured with, but my audio is always too early. Thanks in advance!

Don't know anything about the other things, but I could maybe give you advice on codecs and stuff. I would prefer editing in Adobe Premier, it's easy to handle you images and sounds in that program. And I recommend h264 as a codec. You can both get High resolution movies with awesome quality, depending on the quality of the images, plus low resolution movies, still awsome quality. I hope that helped a little bit //Baku'

yo.. 1)cant help you on 1st question, never experienced. 2)using divx codec for converting screenshots to video file is bad idea. (unless you don't want to edit it on other applications) I would recommend either using uncompressed avi or Lagarith Loseless codec - it's pretty much same as uncompressed mode but filesize will be much smaller while quality remains. 3)never experienced, I could only suggest fixing that manually in vegas

You have the latest version of VDub? i dont know exactly whats the problem with sound but for codecs i do...just use x264 or xvid...always compress with a 'lossless' codec such as Huffyuv or uncompressed even from vegas...so only compress with x264 or xvid if its your final movie. Check News thread "Encoding a Movie" by auri youll find useful tutorials he posted there...without him i wouldnt learn this much about movie making hope it helpes a bit... under 3. can you tell how you record your footage?(what you do step by step)

Hy all!
Big big thanks for your useful tips! My 2. and 3. problem seems to be solved by Lagarith lossless codec, even if I can't play back properly those videos I make with it,doesn't matter ,I just convert them to xvid or x264 both of them are great(just takes more time but I don't care:D). To xarian: I have VD 1.9.8,I think its the latest version.I downloaded those files that auri posted in that thread you suggested,if I have time,I'll read them. How I made the capturing? In a very simple way:started mme, loaded the demo, went to that point where I wanted to capture, just stopped the demo, wrote in console: /capture tga 30 (picturename) and unpaused the demo. Than I waited until it captured what I wanted, just stopped the demo again, wrote in console:/capture stop, than pushed ESC and closed mme. Thats all.(naturally I have mme_saveWav 1,I captured the sound at the same time).
Many thanks again for all of you!
Matthew

My encoding process usually is: Open VD,load the first screenshot,in "Video" menu I select frame rate to 30(I usually capture with 30,especially when I'm making test videos),than I select Compression and there,I choose a codec(I used DivX until now,it always worked but now,it doesn't.I tried Lagarith lossless codec-its not bad,but the avi I get isn't smooth enough for me,even if I convert it to xvid, its just not enough good.I downloaded Huffyuv 2.2.0,and it ALWAYS crashes,so the codec must be corrupted,or flawed.MSU lossless codec was just simply bad.All the other codecs I have are useless-Microsoft Video,Intel(R) Video,etc.-Oh,and if I make an uncompressed avi and then encode it with x264,I get NO video So,the only codec I can use is still Lagarith ls codec) After choosing the codec,I select the audio file if I captured the audio too.I used a resize filter before too,I captured at 1152x864 and resized the images to 1024x768.I saved all these settings to a script file and just loaded it.Than I made the avi file and thats it. I know its a silly question but whats MeGui? I rad something about it in the encoding tutorial of HS team. It's a kind of encoder/decoder?
